They are from the University of Detroit Jesuit High School, and they came up with a plan that everyone is praising: Serve as pallbearers for unclaimed veterans’ funeral services.
High school Senior, Joshua Gonzales originally came up with the idea when he thought it would be a solid way to provide dignity towards homeless individuals, as the boys planned to volunteer at funerals for the homeless without known families. Then the students found another specific target as others joined in the effort – becoming pallbearers for homeless veterans, whose bodies had gone unclaimed.

Three veterans received 6 boys as their pallbearers. Since then, inspiration grew to the point of 50 boys having been trained and now serving in this volunteer mission.
Here’s senior Tom Lennon:
“This was an opportunity to give something to somebody who finished their life on the fringe of society. These veterans were men I have never met, but they helped make the country I live in safer and stronger. No matter who they were or what they did on earth, every person deserves a proper burial.”
How amazing is this? These guys have devoted their time to a very worthy and righteous cause. In turn, they have inspired classmates, and now they inspire thousands of others who end up reading their story.
